Enlightenment (poem)

When mindfulness is your constant effortless choice

When you can witness every breath

When happiness and depression pass through you like empty clouds

When your body moves on its own,

planning happens in and of itself

& doing and not-doing are the same

When you see yourself in everyone

and no longer expect anything from others

When you’ve transcended superiority, inferiority & equality

When there is nothing you can call ‘mine’

When you are ready to die at any point without regrets

Then you can call yourself ‘enlightened’,

knowing fully well that you never were a separate self
