Q: Is there something beneficial for the body in hanging?
A: Yes, there is! Just like exploring meditation and Non-duality are ways for me to counterbalance the modern overemphasis on doing, striving, and stress (yang energy), hanging is a way to balance out the now-common pattern of sitting in chairs all day — which our bodies were never really designed for.
Even if it may not become clear after the first viewing, there’s a lot of yin/yang balancing woven into this workout. One example is the transition from hanging to squatting: hanging fully elongates the spine and opens the body, while squatting compresses it. Both are very natural body positions that we've largely lost touch with.
So yes, hanging has many benefits, especially when viewed within the current context — physically, energetically, and even emotionally.
